Virtual Aquarium at Discovery World Milwaukee
I designed and led this project for Discovery World in Milwaukee, Wisconsin while I was Creative Director for Nogginaut.
Our collaborators on the museum staff wanted an interactive, virtual environment which allows users to manipulate certain properties of water quality (salt, PH, nutrients, oxygen, etc) and to see the results of changes occur in real time before their eyes.
The version you see in the video is the 1.0 version, which features several aquatic environments and associated species of fish.
The system was built on the Ogre open source 3D game engine. The fish were modeled and animated in Maya by teams in Bangalore, India and Wellington New Zealand.
As project lead and principle designer on the project my role was to interface with the client and coordinate the development team’s efforts and to design all user interfaces and interactions.
